Sue Garrod

  Sue Garrod has been performing trombone for 15 years. In Indiana she was a member of the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, the Lafayette Citizens Band, and the The Big Swing Band.  In her early years of studying music, she fondly remembers her experiences at the Interlochen National Music Camp where she was a musician in the World Youth Symphony Orchestra, the jazz band, and other groups.

  Sue now plays trombone with a variety of musical groups in Hawaii, including The Olliephonic Horns, Kona Dance Band, Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra, Cool Mauka Jazz, and live musical theater productions.

   Sue earned her B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. in business strategy from Purdue University, during which time she performed with the Purdue symphonic band, marching and jazz bands.  For 14 years, Sue was a faculty member in electrical engineering technology at Purdue.

  Sue now works as a technical marketing researcher and analyst for Cadence Design Systems, a leading engineering design software company that is headquartered in California. She and her husband, Bob Borns, reside in Kailua-Kona.
